So in my quest for mastering hand lettering and calligraphy I have been looking for resources to help me on my path of discovery. There are lots of artists that you can look to for inspiration (which I will be posting in the future) but today I wanted to post somewhere that actually teaches lettering and handwriting. Enter IAMPETH.

IAMPETH is the International Association of Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (hence IAMPETH, the name is a mouthful). Their site is full of resources created by true masters in the art of penmanship and lettering. You can find vintage penmanship magazines with unreal samples of beautiful antique style penmanship. They have a gallery of artwork by past and present IAMPETH members and masters. They even have rare books on penmanship that you can look through online. They have tons of resources for people interested in penmanship and calligraphy.

The part I wanted to focus on though is the Lessons section of the site. First off all of the lessons are free to the general public. No need to be an IAMPETH member to look at them. There are lessons for pretty much every type of penmanship you can imagine: pointed nib, broad nib, left handed…even just handwriting. Truly if it has to do with penmanship you can find some lessons on how to get started.

So if you are looking to get started on the path of penmanship or are still working on honing your skills head over to IAMPETH and check it out!
